A multimedia night walk in pursuit of hidden wonders. Old stories tell of the wondrous things that happen near Whistler. Between the trees, in the shadow of mountains, legends say there’s a hidden valley where stardust falls from the sky, filling all living things with its pure light. There’s a way to get there, but few know how to find it. The pathway is marked only by the lingering traces of two long-ago hikers. Join an evening excursion in search of a hidden valley that’s filled with unexpected enchantment. The legends hold that its beautiful mysteries stay with those who find it long after they leave.

Details

The Winter Vallea Lumina pathway is 1 km of undulating trail and takes between 30 – 45 minutes to complete depending on each visitor. Please plan for the experience to take 1 hour. The whole experience is in the coastal rainforest, and includes some uphill and downhill sections.

*The undulating trails are not recommended for those with reduced mobility as there are some staircases involved. *Strollers are not permitted on the trails, the use of baby carriers is recommended. *Umbrellas are not permitted, the show runs hail, rain or shine so be prepared.

Whistler Tasting Tours … the relaxed way to sample some of the best restaurants Whistler has to offer!

We were so impressed with the Whistler Tasting Tours, which we found to be a welcome change to some of the more high energetic, adrenaline filled activities that Whistler offers.

After arriving at the meeting point, we were greeted by our Tour Guide who explained that we would be sampling different courses, with recommended wine pairings throughout the night, at some of the top restaurants in town.

We had chosen the ‘Finer Things Dining Tour’ which offers 4 courses throughout the evening. Make sure you bring an appetite with you!

Everything was in walking distance and there were 6 of us in total which made for nice conversations. With different courses offered at each restaurant that we visited, the walks in between not only allowed us to view more of the Village, but also helped give us a break between the courses.

One of the highlights was our stop at Bearfoot Bistro, where you get to sabre a bottle of champagne. This was a first for me and I was thrilled that it came off perfectly!

The food and knowledge of the restaurant staff and our guide was amazing. Overall, we found the whole event to be very relaxed and thoroughly enjoyable. We learnt a lot about different wines and foods and our guide also gave us lots of tidbits of information on buildings that we were passing and Whistler in general. To top it off we paid a visit to the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, which was delicious, but it pretty much finished me off!

We thoroughly recommend the Whistler Tasting Tours – it’s a great evening out if you are a group wanting to get a real feel for all the different restaurants in town.

Whistler Sports Rentals

is a locally owned and operated bike rental store in Whistler, BC. We operate May through October, and in the Winter months our shop is occupied by Spicy Sports, a local ski rental shop.

Established in February 2016, we opened with the aim of maintaining an independent bike shop in the Upper Village. Since then we have branched out to a new store (Gateway Bikes) in the main Whistler Village, a great launching point for all of your bike activities. Whether it is a scenic ride, trail ride or day in the bike park, we are conveniently located for them all. We believe it is important to give visitors to Whistler a local option, and are proud to be a part of this amazing community.

We have a small workshop and experienced technicians if your bike needs a tune-up. We also tune-up and service our own bikes regularly, to keep them running like new!

Passenger Bobsleigh:

Passenger Bobsleigh Experience is one of Whistler’s most unique activities! No previous experience is required. After an orientation, you will slide in a real bobsleigh, steered by a trained pilot. You and your team will race through ten twists and turns at speeds of 125+ km/hr and feel the acceleration of up to 4 g-forces. The Whistler Sliding Centre is the only place in Canada where public can try bobsleigh and slide like an Olympian. The wellbeing and safety of our guests and staff is our topmost priority. With guidance from our Government, we are following their lead advising against all non-essential travel. Therefore, we are currently only open to those seeking a monthly rental or those needing to self-isolate. As the situation changes, we sincerely hope to be able to welcome guests back during the summer months.

Cleaning

Although our cleaners have always gone to great lengths to ensure that each rental property is cleaned and ready for our guests, they are now taking extra steps in light of COVID-19. Our cleaners are extremely conscious of the safety aspects for both guests and staff alike and are going above and beyond to ensure that each property is thoroughly sanitised. This includes disinfecting high contact surface areas as well as ensuring that ALL laundry, including duvet covers are sent to a professional cleaning company after each guest stay. Therefore you may pay a little extra for our new cleaning services, but rest assured that it comes with your safety in mind.

Our Future Together

Although at present it is unclear what our future will look like once COVID-19 has passed, we do know that Whistler remains a very special place to visit. The summers offer beautiful days filled with sunshine and long evenings and the winter months are packed with snow laden trees and star filled nights. We want you to be able to capture not only the wonderful vibe that Whistler has to offer, but also the serene nature of being in the mountains, it really is like no other.

As a small business, our goal is not only to rent out vacation homes, but to be able to share with you some of the magic that Whistler has to offer and we hope you will continue to visit once travel restrictions are lowered.

More than 8,000-acres and 200 ski runs span the two mountains of Whistler and Blackcomb – linked by the world’s longest free-span lift, you can experience them both in the same day. And if you’re into the backcountry, expect steep chutes, alpine-style bowls and legendary heli-skiing terrain.

Forested slopes lead to the traffic-free resort centres of Upper Village, Creekside and the main hub of Whistler Village. Here, the atmosphere is vibrant yet down-to-earth, with more than 90 restaurants, over 200 shops and some of the best après bars in North America – GLC and Longhorn Bar & Saloon are among our staff favourites.

Beyond the bars and boutiques, there’s so much going on, from the weekly Fire & Ice show and the forest zipwire, to the bobsleigh track at the 2010 Olympic park.

New Lifts for Whistler Blackcomb

Vail Resorts, Inc. has invested $66 million in three new lifts for Whistler Blackcomb for the 2018/19 season. Most upgrades will be complete for official opening day on November 22 and include:

A new 10-passenger Blackcomb gondola to replace the Wizard and Solar chairlifts on Blackcomb Mountain (scheduled to open December 14)
A new six-passenger high-speed lift to replace the current Emerald Chair in the Family Ski Zone on Whistler Mountain
Replacement of the triple-passenger Catskinner chair with a four-passenger, high-speed lift on Blackcomb Mountain
The changes will create the first three-gondola connection in the world, allowing guests to upload, connect between the mountains via the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola and download in a gondola for a weather protected experience. The new Blackcomb Gondola will also be adjacent to the Rendezvous Lodge, allowing skiers and non-skiers to enjoy a fully-enclosed ride up or down the mountain year-round, with direct access to Christine’s Restaurant.

New Blackcomb Gondola: Opening December 14, 2018
Running from the Upper Village to the Rendezvous Lodge on Blackcomb Mountain, the new Blackcomb Gondola will rise 3.86 kilometres from bottom to top when it opens for the 2018/19 ski season. This 10-person Doppelmayr lift carries 184 cabins and transports 4,000 people per hour. Primarily manufactured in Saint-Jérôme, Quebec, its mid-station will load 200 metres below the mid-point of the Wizard and Solar Chairs it replaces. When combined with a ride on the PEAK 2 PEAK and Village gondolas, it completes a continuous lift system of a 13.5-kilometre loop from the bottom of Whistler Mountain, across the valley between both mountains, and down Blackcomb Mountain – a true feat of engineering.

If you’re planning on cooking big meals for a larger group, you will love the wonderfully stocked kitchen where nothing has been overlooked. Little touches like the JTB speaker where you can hook up your personal device and listen to your own selection of music and the private garage where you can store all your gear makes this place a dream. This side of Whistler has so many hidden gems that most ‘tourist’ don’t get to see – Dusty’s is on your doorstep – just ski down to the base and sample some of the best ‘Caesars’ in town or indulge in the evening entertainment. For morning coffee or a quick café treat, head down to ‘The Fix’ at Nita Lake. Nita Lake itself has it’s own restaurant with views of Nita Lake as well as a Spa if you are here for some pampering. If you really want to see where the locals go, Rowlands is a real ‘locals’ bar with the latest sports showing on TV and friendly atmosphere. With the Lake lit up at night it’s a true Canadian experience to be venturing out in the winter forest. Head to the Passiv Haus for Hot Chocolate or head back home to your gorgeous 4 bedroom property and ramp up the gas fireplace which has some funky light options to give the room a warm and cozy feel. Following BC’s summer restart program, we are able to share the beauty of Whistler once again with visitors from the province and beyond. Find out what’s different this season so you can pre plan and get the best out of your visit.

Before you arrive:

Building on the success of the safe and enjoyable summer we had last year, Tourism Whistler has increased the information available for travellers to help you plan a trip to remember. Visit their dedicated Covid-19 protocols page to read up on current health restrictions in the region as well as vital sources of information for your stay and even what businesses/restaurants are operating fully around town.

Plan and Book

Especially important this summer, ensure to pre-book accommodation for your required stay, consider staying past the weekend when the crowds disperse and the village relaxes a little. Restaurants and tours are operating at a lower occupancy than previous years so for peace of mind, pop in that dinner reservation and book that dream bear viewing tour before you arrive. It means your stay will be much more relaxing from the get-go and with flexible cancellation policies, most are easy to change.

It’s been a tough year and hopefully we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, however, things can still change quickly in accordance with public health orders. Set your expectations by checking your bookings and updates in the area you are visiting. We’re all looking forward to the day we can put the thought of masks behind us, but right now they’re still mandatory in enclosed spaces (restaurants/shops/gondolas etc) and Whistler Bike Park (lining up and on the lifts!) . So be prepared- pack your reusable to avoid last minute stress at venues.

Its time to have fun, let your dream adventure begin!

On arrival, Whistler may seem like a huge area with so much to explore..and you wouldnt be wrong! However the whole town is interconnected with 46km of beautiful trail networks for walking, running, biking, skating…you choose! You can access every lake and neighbourhood in the valley via the valley trail, meaning you can leave the car at home.

Go Green initiative

This summer the RMOW (Resort Municipality of Whistler) is running FREE secure bike valet at Whistler Olympic Plaza, Lost Lake Park and Rainbow Park as well as FREE shuttles from the village for both parks too. So consider bringing your bike along and save not only on gas but the added stress of finding and paying for parking. (Bike valets available Fri/Sat/Sun and holidays from 19th June, from summer 2021 pay parking will be implemented at most Whistler parks at $2ph)

Visited Before?

Consider a hike or bike that is more off the beaten path. The village stroll tends to be busy so if you’re looking for a little more personal space, try exploring the Cheakamus, Function Junction and Rainbow neighbourhoods where you’ll find flowing rivers, waterfalls, old train wrecks and fantastic local businesses to fuel up at. Looking to head up the mountain?

Unlike this Winter season, a reservation will not be needed to head up Whistler or Blackcomb mountain although stringent Covid-19 measures are still in place to keep everyone safe. Pre-book your tickets for both Whistler bike park and Whistler sightseeing to avoid disappointment. Pack lunch and water to avoid queues in Roundhouse/Rendevous, take plenty of layers (it can still get pretty chilly at the Peak even on the sunniest day!) and don’t forget your sunscreen!

The best time to stop for lunch is either early (11.30am) or late (post 2pm) to avoid the busy times!

Here’s a quick summary of some of the great places to eat on the mountains:-

Blackcomb

Glacier Creek Lodge

This is one of my favourites! Located at the bottom of the Jersey Cream chair lift and also the Glacier Creek Chair, you will find the views from here are spectactular. It’s one of the bigger restaurants, however they offer a huge variety of foods.

What do they offer:

They offer a wide selection of food to cater for everyone’s needs or just grab a coffee or hot chocolate at the café.

In the spring time they also fire up an outdoor BBQ with live music.

Hortsman Hut:

You really need to avoid the busy times here as the hut is quite small – it’s a cosy log cabin. You really are on top of the world (right at the top of the 7th Heaven Chair). In spring there’s some outdoor seating.

What do they offer:

A small selection of hot and cold foods (soups and chilli) – a great place to warm up with a quick hot choc and a croissant stop!

Crystal Hut (or what I call ‘the Waffle House’)!

Head up the Crystal Chair and you’ll find this lovely but cabin at the top! It really is the place for hot waffles, fruit and lashings of cream. Great for sharing! In warmer weather you can enjoy the wonderful deck while soaking up the sunshine and glorious views.

Rendezvous

This is one of the big restaurants on the mountain. Located at the top of the Solar Coaster Chair and next to the Peak 2 Peak Gondola.

If you are looking for something a little more upmarket you can opt for ‘fine dining’ at Christine’s which is a separate restaurant at the Rendezvous.

What do they offer:

A wide selection of hot and cold food. If you are after a snack, they have a separate café offering teas, coffee, hot chocolates, cakes and pastries.

Whistler:

Chic Pea

A must visit to sample the warm freshly baked cinnamon buns! Just off Whiskey Jack run on Whistler. The Chic Pea is a log cabin and if the sun’s shining there are plenty of seats outside!

What do they offer:

Flatbreads, soups, chilli – most of the usual hot and cold foods and of course their famous cinnamon buns!

RoundHouse

This is the biggest restaurant on the mountain. Located at the top of the Whistler Gondola and next to the Peak 2 Peak Gondola. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating. They also have ‘Steeps Grill & Wine Bar’ which Whistler’s full service dining restaurant.

What do they offer:

A wide selection of hot and cold food, from pizza’s, curry, noodles, soups, wraps and more!

Dusty’s

A great place to stop if you want to ski the ‘Peak to Creek’. It’s at the bottom of the mountain and this run takes you down to the base of Creekside where you will find Whistler’s original watering hole! This place has a great atmosphere, especially for après.

What do they offer:

Legendary pulled pork sandwiches, burgers, salads and more, all finished off with a classic ‘Caesar’.

Ravens Nest

Located just at the base of ‘Big Red’ chair, this cosy restaurant is a ‘vegetarian only’ restaurant.

Fun for the whole family:

Treetop Adventures with The Adventure Group : Give your aerial skills a go and swing through the forest at Cougar mountain. With over 70 elements ranging from mild to wild, this is sure to be an experience you won’t soon forget! The Treetop Adventure Course is a natural team-building activity and the perfect adventure to share with family, friends and strangers alike. Treetop courses range from specifically designed kids courses to advanced adult, there really is something for the whole family. Expect to spend up to 2 hours on the beginner courses and up to 4 hours on the advanced full course.

Ziplining with TAG Whistler: Try out one of the longest ziplines in Canada, again in the beauty of Cougar mountain. Ride multiple dual zip lines connected to each other with a series of trails and boardwalks. The Adventure groups unique zip line allows guests to ride side by side (each on their own cable) so you can share this incredible experience with your family members! *Minimum age for this activity is 7 years

Hiking High note/Half note on Whistler mountain : Let the adrenaline re-set and take in the mountain air from the peak of Whistler. There are multiple trails on both Whistler and Blackcomb (accessed via the Gondola with a sightseeing pass ) but High Note has a reputation for being one of the best. Cloaked in a bed of wildflowers from late July to early August, and with stunning views of Cheakamus Lake, Black Tusk and the surrounding peaks- it’s easy to see why. If you’re a seasoned hiker, this 9.5km loop may take approximately 4 hours and is classed as intermediate, the Half Note trail provides a shorter version at just 3.2km. Be sure to pack plenty of sunscreen, water and layers when heading into the mountains. Weather can change quickly-always be prepared.

Vallea Lumina : Vallea Lumina is a pathway through an old-growth forest that will take visitors of all ages through a magical night walk full of hidden wonders, telling a story that unfolds in chapters along the way. An unmissable experience and a great way to fill the evenings/really tire the kids out… Cougar mountain is a short 10-minute drive from Whistler village, bring layers as the forest may get chilly in the evening.

Adrenaline Fueled Adventures:

Whistler Bungee: Looking to get your heart racing? Whistler Bungee is an incredible place to experience your first bungee jump. It gives thrill seekers an unforgettable experience by jumping 160ft (50 meters) over the glacial-fed Cheakamus River- whether you jump on your own, or in tandem! Just 20 minutes drive from Whistler Village and easily accessible from the Sea2sky!

Whistler Bike Park: The ultimate gravity-fed downhill biking experience, drawing mountain bikers from across the world! Whistler bike park is world-renowned, an adrenaline-pumping experience whether you’re a first-timer or have years of bike experience. All ability levels are catered for with a series of mountain zones from cruisey greens and blues, technical blacks and double blacks and some of the best jump lines in the world.

First timers- Enjoy the chairlift ride and get used to your bike on Easy does it- taking you on a long groomed trail from the top of Fitzsimmons chair back to base.

RZR Tours with The Adventure Group : Four wheels appeal more to your active soul? Each RZR tour begins in the temperate forest base camp where your guide will explain how to operate these fast and fun machines. You will then have the opportunity to explore glacial lakes, rivers and beautiful mountain vistas, all whilst ripping around on a fast 4×4 buggy! There are trails and options ranging from the confident beginner to advanced, combining a great mix of exploring, adventure and sightseeing! *Tours last between 1.5 and 2 hours. Cougar mountain is a 10-minute self drive/taxi ride from Whistler village.
